If you need brute power of a drill, this is the drill for you. If you want a medium to medium heavy duty drill, this lightweight beauty is close to perfect. When I first saw this drill in the store, I thought it was a toy. The specs sounded impressive, so I gave it a try. This little drill is amazing. If you put it next to a drill it's own size, you will find that others have a fraction of the Makitas power. I love it for these reasons:

If you need brute power of a drill, this is the drill for you. If you want a medium to medium heavy duty drill, this lightweight beauty is close to perfect. When I first saw this drill in the store, I thought it was a toy. The specs sounded impressive, so I gave it a try. This little drill is amazing. If you put it next to a drill it's own size, you will find that others have a fraction of the Makitas power. I love it for these reasons:

1. The batteries recharge in 15 minutes (for real). Makita seems to have capitalized on the advantages of new battery technology and combined it with a well built, smooth, advanced tool.

2. I am impressed with the power. It fits in my hand nicely. After heavy use, I can honestly say I love it. I drilled through a steel beam in the basement. I am hard on stuff, but the little Makita drill has held up superbly. The batteries charge quickly as claimed.

3. I own a wide array of cordless power tools, but after seeing and realizing it's potential - had to make a Makita new compact drill part of my arsenal. There is a tool for everything, heavy duty, high torque for big jobs, and light duty for trim-out and finish work.

4. It derives it's power from what I would describe as a "pancake" battery pack which when installed protrudes inches from the bottom of the drill. This new style battery is totally unique and is in my opinion a "stroke of genius".

5. The battery significantly reduces weight and eliminates bulk. This lets you get in tight spaces and doesn't tire your arm during extended use. The battery packs a punch. The kit comes with two batteries and they recharge in minutes compared to hours.

6. I have had this drill for months and it has exceeded all my expectations. The Makita drives screws home effortlessly. Just hold on tight! The light is handier than I thought.

This drill is very comfortable to use. It's light weight and ergonomic, both comfortable grip and balances well in the hand. Much of the plastic body is covered in a grippy black rubber. It won't scratch when you lay it on it's side. The start/stop is instantaneous, and the variable speed has excellent torque throughout the range. The motor and gearbox are very solid. Right now, I couldn't be more satisfied.
